Where to Store Luggage During a Manhattan Deposition

By Cindy Afanador, RMR CRR RPR CSRMarch 20, 20256 min read

You're flying in from Chicago, Dallas, or Los Angeles for a 9 AM deposition at 488 Madison Ave — and you're catching a 6 PM flight home. That rolling suitcase becomes the most stressful variable of your day. Here's exactly how to handle it.

Option 1: Free In-Office Storage at Cindy Court Reporting (Best Option)

This is the one most attorneys don't know about until we tell them at intake. If you're deposing at our Suite 1120 facility at 488 Madison Avenue, we store your luggage in our secure office at no charge. Drop it off when you arrive, pick it up before you leave for the airport. No ticket, no fee, no trip outside the building.

We started offering this after watching out-of-state attorneys arrive flustered — having spent 30 minutes at a nearby luggage storage facility, or worse, hauling a suitcase into the deposition room and shoving it in a corner. Neither is a good look in front of opposing counsel.

To use in-office storage

Simply mention it when you book your deposition. We'll confirm space and have someone ready to take your bag when you arrive. Works for carry-ons, rolling suitcases, and small to medium duffel bags.

Option 2: Paid Luggage Storage Near 488 Madison Ave

If you're not deposing with us, or if you have an unusually large number of bags, several paid storage options are within a short walk:

Vertoe — 51st & Lexington

Recommended
5 min walk from 488 Madison
$6–$9 per bag/day
Typically 7 AM–10 PM

Book online in advance at vertoe.com for guaranteed space. Accepts all bag sizes. Clean, staffed facility.

LuggageHero — Multiple Midtown Locations

Budget Option
4–8 min walk
$1.50–$2/hour or $10/day flat
Varies by location

App-based service. Bags stored at partnering shops and hotels. The Midtown East cluster covers the Madison Ave corridor well.

Grand Central Terminal Luggage Storage

Transit Hub
4 min walk east on 42nd St
$7–$12 per bag/day
7 AM–11 PM

The most reliable large-volume option in the area. Managed by the MTA. Works well if you arrived by Metro-North or Amtrak Acela.

Option 3: Leave It at Your Hotel (If You're Checking Out That Morning)

If you stayed at one of the hotels near 488 Madison — The Lotte Palace, Baccarat, or The Kimberly — virtually all of them offer complimentary bell storage after checkout. Check out at 11 AM, hand your bags to the bellman, and pick them up on your way to the airport at 4 PM. Free, simple, and the bags are insured.

Pro tip: When you check in the night before, ask the front desk to flag your reservation for complimentary post-checkout storage. This avoids any friction the next morning when you're rushing to get to a 9 AM deposition and the front desk is dealing with a full lobby.

What NOT to Do

Do not bring your suitcase into the deposition room

It's immediately noticed by opposing counsel and signals that this is your first time in New York. It also creates a cramped, unprofessional atmosphere — especially in a small 6-person room.

Do not use the Penn Station locker system for a full-day deposition

MTA lockers at Penn Station are limited in size and have strict time windows. You'll be worried about it all day instead of focusing on testimony.

Do not assume your Uber driver will wait with your bags

Surge pricing, traffic, and the Manhattan no-idling rules make this impractical. You need a solution that doesn't depend on a vehicle sitting outside a Midtown office building.
